Assistant Cook for Canine Kitchen
Paul’s Custom Pet Food is expanding! We are looking to hire a part-time, 25 to 30-hour per week assistant cook with room to grow into a full-time 40-hour per week kitchen manager position. Pay commensurate with experience. Note: All the food we make is human grade; that is, we use the same ingredients you will find in a restaurant kitchen.
Responsibilities of Assistant Cook:
- Accurately measure ingredients for each batch of pet food, including vitamins and minerals
- Prepare meal and treat ingredients, including but not limited to washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, dehydrating, packaging, and storing meat, fish, fruit, and vegetables
- Order and receive deliveries, verify that all ordered items have been delivered, and store deliveries per chef’s instructions
- Take regular inventory of kitchen supplies, including meal and treat ingredients, and notify chef or other supervisor of low or depleted supplies
- Properly package and record all products
- Discard and record all expired or spoiled food
- Perform basic cleaning duties and ensure that all workstations are properly sanitized
- Contribute to kitchen and food safety standards
Assistant Cook Requirements:
- Comfortable working with meat and fish
- Experienced working with knives and machines
- Proven commercial kitchen experience
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communications skills
- The ability to work under pressure
- A self-starter with an ability to think ahead
- Willingness to supervise others as needed
- Associate degree, diploma, or certification in culinary arts preferred
- Food safety certification or willingness to attend food health and safety regulations
- Desire and willingness to learn the requirements for making pet food
- A sense of humor and love of pets helpful but not required
